Rock's Swerve

Thursday night's 'press conference" kicking off the real Road to WrestleMania kicked off with a bang.  Now, I don't know if this was part of the storyline all along, or the plans for The Rock changed due to fan's reaction that Cody Rhodes wasn't going to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.  Either way though, I think that the WWE has just made the storyline a lot more interesting.

At first, I thought that it wax just going to be a repeat of the Cena/Rock feud from a few years back, but with a family twist to the storyline.  Thankfully that is not the case.  Adding a family element to the story makes things a lot more personal.  I had a bit of a hint that something was going to happen when Rocky started talking about the "Cody-Crybabies," but I though that was Rock's sense of humor.  But as the scene continued, you didn't really see the tension between Reigns and The Rock that one might usually see during a set up for a match.

Once Cody interrupted thee love fest between Roman and Rocky, I knew something was going to happen, and when the "family" element came into play, with the Rock standing behind Roman, I was thinking that there might be a bit of a swerve coming.  For the full interaction, see the video below.

Quite honestly, Rhodes will have to build a bit of a group behind him, because with the Bloodline, which now includes The Rock, there will most certainly be some outside interference in the WrestleMania main event with Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso.  Having Seth Rollins in Cody's corner is a great place to start considering Rollins' history with Reigns.  I could also see Jay Uso being in Cody's corner as well, as they seem to be setting up a WrestleMania match with Jimmy and Jay Uso.

It is a real shame that Brock Lesnar is going through his Vince McMahon controversy, because I think that he would be a great counter to The Rock. Go back to SummerSlam 2002 when The Rock was defeated by Lesnar for the WWE (WWF) title.  Longtime fans will remember that classic, and how the crown was solidly behind Lesnar then.  What a set up that would have been!

I guess that it remains to be seen on this Road To WrestleMania, which is another reason why that this is the most fun and exciting time to be a pro wrestling fan.
